Family Fun Days

Family Fun Days

Family Fun Days are local events where families affected by ALS can come together to have fun and make new friends!

Previous Family Fun Days have taken place at the CoCo Key Water Resort, where families enjoyed swimming, music, and food; Shady Brook Farms, where we had face painting, pumpkin picking, and a hay ride; and our next Family Fun Day will take place in Fall 2020! Check back soon to learn more!

Camp HLC

Camp HLC is a free, 3-day weekend retreat for children and young adults who have had or have a loved one battling ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. Campers enjoy recreational activities such as swimming, hiking, archery, and more, while also connecting with others who share in their experiences. We now host Camp HLC in six states! Please click here to learn more about Camp HLC and to register!

Hug of Hope Care Packages

There are many families affected by ALS and many of those families have children. In addition to our camps, we can provide a Hug of Hope from afar. A Hug of Hope is a care package that includes an age appropriate gift (stuffed animal or gift card), HLC t-shirt, card, snack, HLC wristband, literature, and a Camp HLC brochure. You can receive a Hug of Hope free of charge with the completion of this application.

Young Ambassador Program

Teenagers and young adults ages 14-22 who have attended at least one Camp HLC weekend can apply to become HLC Young Ambassadors. Young Ambassadors will attend meetings, spread awareness about ALS and Hope Loves Company's mission, and build and develop business, writing, public speaking, and marketing skills. If you are interested in becoming an HLC Young Ambassador, please contact Nicole Russano at nicole.russano@hopelovescompany.org.

Susan B. Anderson Scholarship

Susan B. Anderson was a shining example of someone who lived a life for others. She was thought of by many as the most giving and thoughtful person they knew. She was also the mom of two amazing children who have attended Camp HLC. As a teacher and volunteer, Susan dedicated her life to helping others. In August 2014, at  50 years old, Susan was diagnosed with ALS. She passed away just a year and a half later, but kept her beautiful smile and selflessness throughout her traumatic journey.

This community service scholarship is open to students whose lives have been affected by ALS, and who have  led an unselfish life, through volunteering and community service.

The application closes on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 11:59 PM EST. Recipients will be notified mid-December.

Educational Materials

We send free educational materials and children's books to families affected by ALS, including:

What Did You Learn Today? written by Tina Singer-Ames

Tina Singer-Ames wrote What Did You Learn Today? for her children, Nora and Adam. The book follows Mrs. Mayer, an elementary school teacher living with ALS, and her students.

The Stars That Shine written by Jodi O'Donnell-Ames

The Stars That Shine is a lovely tribute to all children who live with a disabled or terminally ill parent. Enclosed are resources for ALS patients, their caregivers and children. Although this story is about ALS, the message resonates with all families who live with similar challenges.

Someone I Love Has ALS: A Caregiver Guide edited by Jodi O'Donnell-Ames

"This guide was created by a variety of caregivers and professionals who have years of experience with various aspects of ALS. It was written by volunteers and experts who care about ALS and your journey. It is the resource that I wish we had received along with the shocking diagnosis." - Jodi O'Donnell-Ames.

Please contact Jodi O'Donnell-Ames at jodi.donnell-ames@hopelovescopany.org if you're interested in receiving any of our children's books and educational materials. We also include WDYLT?, TSTS, and SILHALS in our Hug of Hope care packages.
